Age Concern Newbury and West Berkshire held an open day at St Nicolas' Church hall, to coincide with the very popular Thursday coffee morning.
I went along to 'open' the open day, and meet the staff and volunteers of Age Concern. I was most impressed with the huge array of services they offer: financial help (benefits and pension advice, insurance etc), befriending, hospital aftercare, gas and electricity price comparisons, free IT courses, and my favourite - the handyman scheme. This is a free service for the elderly who need small jobs doing around the house - new tap washers fitted, or a lightbulb changed that they cant reach for example.
